A Critique of Critiques?

This 2025 calendar year, the CCB Board of Directors created and implemented an emphasis on photographic education. The idea is to inform and educate all skill levels to encourage more participation with better photography. Pretty noble idea! To help accomplish our educational goals this year we offer zoom critiques of all monthly competition entries right after the monthly meeting. To date these photo reviews have included helpful and sometimes spirited dialogue with differing opinions regarding the photos, but sadly, have been poorly attended. It’s disappointing to have volunteers offer quality personal time to just a tiny fraction of the CCB membership. Please try to attend these reviews. Those who have attended find them very helpful in their own photography. The reviews and tutorials we offer are an experiment for 2025 and we will continue offering them if the interest is there.

You Are Invited…

The second Thursday after the monthly meeting we hold the CCB executive board meeting via Zoom. All CCB members in good standing (paid up) are invited to attend. These meetings are where we conduct the business of our club, hear reports from each director, plan ahead and discuss ideas. Traditionally, there have been several CCB members who attend every board meeting. Although these individuals are not directors nor voting officers of the CCB, they are integral to the management and sustainability of the CCB because they care. A lot. And so, we the Board, invite each of you to join us and participate in the process. I believe you will gain a more thorough understanding of what it takes to lead and manage a club such as ours. More importantly, more informed CCB members will generate new leadership, especially since our club is maturing. To ensure the future, we need younger leaders. Is that you?

A Very Close Look

On Tuesday, July 1 meeting will feature macro photography. Mike Moats is an international award-winning, professional macro photographer from Sterling Heights, Michigan. Mike’s love of photography, which started out as a hobby in 2001, has since evolved into a full-time business. In addition to creating his own images, Mike added “Close-Up/Macro Workshops” into the mix in 2006, and he now also makes speaking appearances at photo conferences nationwide, leads intensive Macro Boot Camps around the country, and now has an online Macro Photo Club to assist photographers with their macro goals. If you have a desire to delve into another world of incredible photography then do not miss this program.

Stay focused,
John
