Washington Oaks Gardens State Park

Saturday, March 23, 2019 - 9:00am

Meeting Location: Washington Oaks Gardens

6400 N Ocean Shore Blvd, Palm Coast, FL 32137

Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Matanzas River, Washington Oaks Gardens State Park preserves 425 acres of coastal scenery along State Road A1A in Palm Coast, Florida.  The Park's eastern boundary holds one of the largest outcroppings of coquina rock on the Atlantic Ocean, creating a picturesque boulder-strewn beach.

The heart of the Park consists of a coastal scrub community that transitions into lush hammock where towering live oaks, hickory and magnolia trees offer their welcome shade.  Bordering the hammock are the scenic tidal marshes of the Matanzas River.

It is within the hammock that 20 acres of formal gardens are sculpted from the landscape to create an amazing place to relax and enjoy the wonders of nature.  The Young's built their winter retreat here; the buildings and gardens of the Washington Oaks Historic District are part of the Young's legacy.

Field Trip Description

The Park opens at 8:00am. The main parking lot is on the left just past the gift shop. Please plan on meeting at the stage area, near the main garden entrance, for a group shot at 9:00am. As always, guests are welcome.
Also, bring a picnic lunch! We have reserved a covered pavilion in the picnic area. Meet at the picnic area at 11:30am. The picnic  area is just a little south down the Park road. There is parking near the picnic area.
