Brevard County Sams House

Sams House at Pine Island Conservation Area

From Ice Age animals to Native Americans to early pioneers, Pine Island Conservation Area has a rich history. Mastodon tusks, pottery sherds, and 19th century farm tools found on site help piece together the story of this special place.

Come inside the oldest standing home in Brevard County, the 1875 Sams family cabin. Travel back in time here and along the paved trail where interactive exhibits highlight Pine Island's many past inhabitants.

Enjoy hiking, biking, horseback riding, fishing, canoeing, and kayaking through five different habitats and over six miles of trails. Wading birds, bald eagles, alligators, manatees, and bobcats are just a few of the animals that you may see. The Environmentally Endangered Lands Program and the St. Johns River Water Management District jointly own this over 880-acre site.

Scavenger Hunt - Melbourne Beach

Meeting Location: Ocean Park, Melbourne Bea

East end of Ocean Ave. by the Indian River

Field Trip Description

CCB’s February 9th Field Trip
The CCB’s February Field Trip takes us to the scenic town of Melbourne Beach on Saturday- Feb. 9th.  Did you know Melbourne Beach is the oldest beachside town in Brevard County?  The field trip incorporates our famous Scavenger Hunt, the 10th Annual Scavenger Hunt.  This not your typical scavenger hunt where you find objects.  It’s all about discovering photos.  The field trip a lot of fun and is designed to improve the creativity in your photography.  Guests are more than welcome to participate.  Wow, that’s what photography is all about
We’ll meet at the Melbourne Beach community pier located off Ocean Avenue at the Indian River Lagoon.  Meeting time is 7:30 a.m.  For the scavenger hunt, we’ll form teams of three, and the teams will “hunt” for the best way to take photographs of given subjects.  The subjects are general in nature such as the pier, green, a sign, etc.
Once the teams have taken their photos, we’ll meet at the nearby Melbourne Beach History Center where we will review each team’s best image taken of each subject.  You will be amazed how each team found captivating subjects and used different techniques to create their photos.  After the review session, around 11:15, we will have a nice lunch in Melbourne Beach.  If you have any questions, please email the CCB at info@ccbrevard.com
